When I first met Debbie and we started dating, when birthdays and Holidays came on, she quickly informed me that she is not a jewelry type of girl. “Sweeeeeet” …..She doesn’t care for gold or diamonds or materialistic things. Well I have hit the jackpot. A beautiful woman who doesn’t care about jewelry. I couldn’t get down on one knee fast enough (BTW, that’s a whole other Blog).
Our wedding was not about “bling” or gowns from Saks Fith Avenue. Debbie has stressed how “Practical” she is and those materialistic things don’t mean anything to her. Hell, one time I bought her roses, two days later she fed them to the goats. I used to brag to my friends how Debbie only cares about her animals. But I have learned “Nothing in Life is free.”
For years I realized that the costs are adding up. Three dogs, two cats 235 birds and of course Finnegan, her horse. We get our dog food from Costco because costco gives us a rebate at the end of the year (Basically you pay more than you should so they give you a small % back). Have you ever lifted one of those dog food bags from costco? Last time I picked one up I thought my testicles were going to shoot across the room. I go through that test twice a month. Then the cats… One of which has no eyeballs. That’s right “no Eye balls.” Some compassionate jerk dumped off a litter of kittens in our neighborhood so My wife put on her Rescue Super-girl outfit and informed me that we are going to rescue the worst looking one with the diseased eyes who needs a special needs home. “Get out the check book!” In addition to the household four legged friends, there are all the birds of North Carolina whom my wife feels obligated to feed. By the way, the bird food bags from Costco way just as much as the dog food.
Then there is Finnegan, the horse and my wife’s true love. I can’t hang with him “if you know what I mean.” He has been her soul mate for over 20 years.. BS… That’s “Before Scott” and if you ever get the chance to meet him, you will understand why. We have built one Barn for him in Lakeville, Refurbished one barn in Florida for him and now we board him in our Equestrian community here in NC. Between the barns, the board, the hay, the vet bills, the food from Costco, I could of bought her a 10 Carrot Diamond Ring along with 5 sets of Diamond Earrings. So in retrospect, when you guys cringe when your wife goes to the mall, think of me and know that Diamonds are a mans best friend.
